An amateur film produced by Arthur Foreman of the 1967 Corpus Christi procession through Middlesbrough starting from St Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral on Sussex Street and ending at the Newlands Convent School on Saltersgill Avenue. The film features many groups of mainly children marching through the town ending at the convent school where a Catholic service honouring the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist is held. Along Sussex Street in Middlesbrough groups of children parade past crowds of onlookers standing along the pavement. The girls at the front all wear white and have veils, many hold their hands in prayer. Some of the groups of both boys and girls wear sashing of different colours. Some of the groups are accompanied by well-dressed women while others are accompanied by nuns. Some walk behind banners representing their respective organisation. Walking in front of one group of veiled girls wearing red sashes is a priest who appears to be praying. A girl in a wheelchair forms part of the procession. At the front of one group four small boys hold the trail of one girl’s dress, behind them a group of other girls in white carrying red flowers. The procession comes under Albert Bridge and along Exchange Place making their way towards Albert Road. Alongside the groups of children, a band of musicians and the filmmaker’s father, also Arthur Forman, in his St John’s Ambulance uniform. A group of older girls in green pass followed by another group of older girls in red blazers and berets with those at the front wearing veils marching behind their banner. They come to a stop briefly before moving on again. Several groups of older schoolboy’s march along Exchange Place and again come to a stop briefly. They are being watched over by several men in smart suits. More groups follow behind including a group of teenage girls in turquoise blazers marching behind a banner for St Michael’s. The procession continues along Albert Road passing Middlesbrough Town Hall and Victoria Square, amongst them a group of Girl Guides and nurses in uniform accompanied by a priest. The nurses come to a stop for a moment before proceeding on. Behind them several groups of smartly dressed men and women with some of the women wearing veils followed by a marching band. Women, some with their children, stand in the grounds of Newlands Convent School as a procession of altar boys, two carrying candles and a third a crucifix, arrives. A group of young girls seen previously wearing red sashes and carrying flowers follow behind after which come several priests with ones walking under a canopy carrying the Monstrance. An altar boy shakes a thurible to spread burning incense. The priest carrying the Monstrance comes out from his canopy and accompanied by two others places it on an altar erected against an exterior wall. A banner above the altar reads ‘Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.’ A Catholic service for the Eucharist is held watched by the large congregation of the faithful. An older priest in red kneels at the front of the altar, as the service comes to a close, he is helped away.
