Different groups and associations gather for Scarborough's Festival parade of 1972. This year, the theme for Rowntrees members of staff is 'Mexican'. The film opens showing a marching band coming round a bend in the road towards the camera with crowds lining the route. Behind them a group from Rowntrees department store wearing sombreros and Mexican style costumes come into view. Participants also lead donkeys which carry wicker baskets loaded with fruit and other items. The float from Rowntrees store appears with a placard on display indicating that it is best in the show. Travelling on it are men and women wear spectacularly colourful costumes continuing the Mexican theme. The film cameraman walks with them as they make their way through Scarborough’s streets. They head along the road on the sea front, where crowds have gathered to watch the spectacle. The women on the float wave to the crowds. They travel past a sign indicating where to enter Corrigan’s amusement arcade. The view changes as the Rowntrees troupe wait patiently at a car park. Along with other parade entrants. The parade moves on a short distance and waits again, judging takes place and the Rowntrees presentation wins best in show, which is displayed on the float as the parade moves on. Views follow of other floats and bands taking part, from roller skating groups to a bell foundry from Holland, where their float carries a man playing a carillon. A Scots pipe band makes an appearance. Crowds line the street outside the Rowntrees store in Scarborough. The parade arrives with the Rowntrees float going past the store which is a signal for a mass of balloons to be released from the upper floors of the store and offices nearby. Other floats and costumed groups pass by, including some others from Holland. The film shows more views in amongst the participants from Rowntrees as they walk along the streets. Views show balloons being released from upper floor windows. The float and those walking alongside stop on a large, grassed area as the parade comes to an end. Everyone gathers to chat about the days event. General views of the other floats that took part in the parade ends the film.
