Made as part of the Yorkshire Media Consortium project, this is a documentation of a major arts education bursary scheme in its tenth year at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Title-Art in the Park The film opens with groups of children beside words made out of cloth; the words read `Art in the Park'. Title-The Joe Feiweles Memorial Bursary was set up ten years ago to help young artists gain experience of working in the community and within education. Title-In July 1999 five former bursary holders came together in a week-long celebration of arts in education. Title-Over a thousand school children visited the park to work with the bursary holders and were assisted by students from Bretton Hall College and other artists. Shots of children getting out of coaches; some of them are primary school age and some are older teenagers. There is a brief shot of a man blowing fire onto a torch. Title-Alex Krysinski, poet, bursary holder 1992 She talks about why the Park is so special to her and how the open space is great for the imagination. There are shots of her interacting with the children as she gets them to make up poetry about their surroundings. Title-Rob McIntosh, sculptor, bursary holder 1993. He is outside with the children gathering wood; he tells them that they are going to use objects to decorate sculptures. Title-Judith, teacher, West Hill Special School She describes how wonderful it is to see the children learning without her having to teach them. Brief shot of children playing pieces of piping. Title-Judi Alston, Film Maker, bursary holder 1991. She talks about how important it was for her to receive the bursary and how it has helped her as a film maker. Some of the children talk about how much they are enjoying the experience of learning in this park environment. A girl is in a music room playing a piano and beside her a boy plays a violin. Title-Nick Meredith, musician, bursary holder 1996/1998 He says that when he was a child he had to play several instruments but now he wouldn't do anything else. In the next shot he is in the music room giving lessons to a group of teenagers. Title-Rachel Liggitt, dancer She is in a hall with lots of children; she gets them to dance and move around the room. She says how good it is to teach these children to move freely. Title-Martin Crick, Bretton Hall College He talks about the great opportunities that are available to the children that take part in this programme. Title-Larraine Harrisson, Drama worker She uses drama as a way of teaching children about issues; she gets them to pretend to be on a train. There are more short interviews with Alex, Judi, Rod, a student and Martin. Some children are working with Rod and are given a lump of plaster to clasp in their hands; they are asked to describe the final piece. Older children are sitting on the grass talking about how much more they are learning by seeing the material first-hand rather than hearing about it in a classroom. Title-Funded by the National Lottery, Wakefield MDC, Joe Feiweles Memorial Trust. Alex says a final piece about what a wonderful project it is and then the film ends with shots of the coaches leaving the park. Title-Production Team Alex Krysinski-Support Chris Watson-Camera Ben Harris-Sound Title-Production and direction, Judi Alston Shot of Judi sitting beside a large sculpture of a man; she yells `cut'.
