Digital Love Letters

This Valentine's Day, as the world celebrates love in its many forms, together with our partners at York St John University’s Cinema and Social Justice project, and York Business School, we're proud to announce the online release of our celebrated film "Nature Matters". Intended as a ‘love letter to nature,’ this beautiful short film is a poignant cinematic ode to the British countryside with a call to action to protect it.

Host a Nature Matters short film screening

A love letter to nature and a call to action.  Nature Matters is a timely short film which speaks across generations, using over a century of archive footage to remind us of our innate relationship with the natural world. This is a unique opportunity to witness and screen climate stories told through regional film heritage by the people who were there and witnessed the events.

Sophia Gray - Work Placement

Sophia Gray is an A-level student from North Yorkshire who recently undertook a 2-day work experience placement with Yorkshire Film Archive. Following the successful work we’ve been doing with volunteers, this placement was integrated within the Nature Matters project, under the supervision of the Nature Matters Curator.

Something’ll Happen by Friday Screening (Thursday, 23 February 2023, 3pm and 6.30pm, Whitby Museum)

This special screening is the first in a series of special 2023 events as the Whitby Museum to mark their 200th anniversary. And what better way to start than by a look back at daily life in Whitby in the 1960’s, seen through the eyes of local newspaper reporters, and captured on film for the BBC television documentary with the title ‘Something’ll Happen by Friday’ as they follow a week in the life of the Whitby Gazette in 1967.
