Sheffield Adventure Film Festival: A Spirit of Adventure

Sheffield Adventure Film Festival is an annual festival dedicated to all things travel, sport and the outdoors represented on film, and hosts over 100 titles across the weekend of the festival. It also organizes off-shoot events across the year, including Spirit of Adventure at Sheffield Cathedral.

Four separate events are taking place across Friday 10th and Saturday 11th of November.

At the two evening events a series of adventure short films will be screening. Ahead of this a choir will be performing accompanied by archive film from the Youth Hostel Association collection with the selected films ranging in date from 1933 to 1981. They paint a picture of the exciting history of the YHA and how people have long had a passion for the outdoors be it climbing, walking, sailing or cycling. They show how the hostels have attracted people of different ages and can accommodate adventures from big to small!

We are currently in the process of working with the YHA on digitising the collection, so watch this space for more information about the films, and the context of their making.

We are really looking forward to showcasing the YHA collection at the Spirit of Adventure Event, alongside films showing contemporary exploration and adventure and all in such an atmospheric venue.
