Scarborough Film Festival: Revive

As part of Scarborough Film Festival 2023 five performers/musicians were commissioned to respond, on the stage at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, to five separate sections of archive film related to the Nature Matters project . The clips were themed around rural, industry, coastal, swimming and weather, and it gave audiences a chance to see archive film through a new lens.

The performers were Charlotte Brooke, Tanya-Loretta Dee, Charles Kirby, Charlotte Oliver and Jon Plant and performances ranged from spoken word, music and live piano scoring. All brought something different to the footage, from a reflection on a need for silence in the modern world to an alien invasion in Scarborough …

It is always interesting to see how our footage can be reinterpreted and reinvented and the performers did an amazing job of that - the audience loved the event, calling for it to be repeated! And one artist commented ‘I had such a wonderful time, and it was so lovely to meet so many wonderful artists and people, and the community!’

Scarborough Film Festival is a new event that launched this year to celebrate all things film with a remit to champion moving image content from local to worldwide content and nurture filmmaking talent. Find out more here: https://www.scarboroughfilmfestival.co.uk/
