This is a film of a family from Holmfirth on holiday around various places in Britain, including well dressings in Derbyshire, York and Whitby.
The film begins showing a large stately home, with Tudor windows, in its grounds. Then there is a river, Eldon Square/Y Stryd Fawr in Wales, with a steam train, and a carnival. There is then a woman on a beach playing with a dog, and a small harbour with boats. They visit Tintern Abbey and various villages and tourist places in the Cotswolds.
The next part of the film features a well dressing in Chesterfield and includes footage of its famous twisted spire. From there, the film moves onto York and features its well-known attractions such as York Mister, Clifford’s Tower, the Shambles, and the Castle Museum. The family also visits Roche Abbey near Doncaster.
The film switches to show heavy snow in the winter of 1962, with people trying to clear mountains of snow at the side of roads. This is followed by a motorcycle trial over moors, along a river, also in the snow, possibly the Scott Trials. Then the film moves on to spring, showing the blossom. Someone is out on a small boat on a lake (1963). Then the film shows several well dressings, probably in Derbyshire, and religious festival held outdoors with a large choir singing.
The film switches to show a view over Whitby and around the streets and locality. They visit the Abbey, then on to the three globes at the Fylingdale radar station, and back to Whitby with the Captain Cook statue. There is then a very crowded beach with water skiers. They visit several villages, and there is more film of the coast before returning to show more well dressings and to the religious festival with people crowded on grassy banks. Finally they visit a zoo, with polar bears, camels, giraffes and birds of prey.
