This is the first of three films made by Derrick Walton of family holidays in the Lake District.
The film begins with a sign for the Plough Inn at Lupton. Two women walk past. Then there are scenes of boats on a lake. Two couples are walking around the hills above the lake. They visit the Lock Hotel and again a lake is filmed from various vantage points. The film shows the Storrs Hall Hotel. They take another walk around a lake, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, and a pleasure boat passes by. They stop to make some tea with a camping stove by the side of a road. In the car there is a small boy. They again go down to a lake where there are sailing boats. They have a picnic and a trip on the lake. The small boy, possibly Adrian, walks hand-in-hand with his mother. There are more views of the lakes, including a red sunset.
There is then a sign for Linnett Hill Hotel Garage. Again they go on a boat ride across a lake. They pass by Grange Bridge in Cumberland and there is a sign for Castle Inn and for Bassenthwaite 3 miles away on the B5291. They drive around the lake, showing various other road signs, including one for Ennerdale Water. At Loweswater they have a picnic. They then visit Buttermere and Honister Pass. The boy chases a sheep. There is a road sign for the Vale of St John, with Threkfeld 4 miles away on the B5322, and then a sign for Ullswater, which they take a boat ride on. The boy is joined by two other children. They pass many sailing boats. There are more signs for Bowness Pier and then for the Kirkstone Pass Inn. They visit Wordsworth’s Cottage and then take a car ferry. There is a sign for Elterwater and the Langdales. A man carries a small child accompanied by three other children along a country road where they have stopped to have a picnic. A car makes its way along Hardknott Pass, and the film comes to an end.
