Title – AMDG, St Anthony, Beeston. May 1942 [Note that this title is the one for film 1145, and is not correct for this film which shows the same ceremony for 1956.]
(1952) The first film begins showing a large group of clergymen in ceremonial dress posing for the camera. They then form a procession into the church, again stopping for the camera and larking about as they enter.
(1956) Intertitle – Her Day
The next film shows a procession being led by choirboys along a street lined by people watching. Behind the crowd there are billboards, one for an appeal for the United Nations, another an advert for Oxydol, and one for Bisto gravy. The choirboys are followed by girls wearing orange dresses and carrying floral bouquets. They are escorting an older girl wearing a white dress. Behind them are many young girls wearing white dresses, each with a headdress. These are followed by more children walking in single file on either side of the road. A statue of The Virgin Mary is carried by four men, with the two leading bearers being the same as on film 1145. One man carries a banner.
(1964) The last film begins by showing the Church board giving the Holy Mass service times of St Augustine’s Church. Guests arrive in cars at the front of the Church for a wedding ceremony, one woman wearing a turquoise suit, hat and gloves, and three men in top and tails. A group arrive in a red minibus. Many other guests follow before three bridesmaids arrive wearing bright pink dresses and carrying bouquets. Then the bride arrives with her father, posing for the cameras.
After ceremony the newlyweds emerge at the front entrance to the Church and pose for photographs. They then run to their waiting car to avoid getting wet from the rain. The bride waves from the car, while other guests form a group at the top of the steps for photos. The reception is held at the Parkway Hotel. Guests arrive at the Hotel car park. Inside the couple cut the wedding cake and the father of the bride proposes a toast. Outside they pose for more photographs. Finally they are seen off in their honeymoon car and the film comes to an end.
