Made by Dennis Leather, a member of Vixen Films and the Stocksbridge Cine Club, this film features the annual Bolsterstone Fayre, Stocksbridge. Footage includes a brass band as well as the locals walking around the stalls and playing games with the general hubbub of the Fayre in the background.
The film begins with shoppers in the village market on a sunny summer’s day, and a mixed age and gender brass band in blue uniforms playing. People mill around the stalls, with some of the stall holders in 18th century costume. Children are playing on double swings. Some are playing games, one involving rolling pennies onto a board with squares, and one knocking over tin cans. There are young mothers in tight jeans with pushchairs. A man is selling balloons near a stall selling potting plants. Other stalls sell jars of jam and pickles. There is also a sheep pen. A group of lads stroll by as we wander around the stalls. The brass band strikes up again. The film comes to an end with two small girls eating frozen lollipops.
