Sign – South Milford
The film opens with a Tetley’s dray horse and carriage. There is a close up of the horse, and there are a few spectators nearby. This is followed by a close-up of the incoming Queen before the Queen and her attendants are lifted into the carriage. The spectators await the beginning of the parade, and a group of bagpipers get ready for the procession as well.
The procession begins, led by the band which is followed by the Tetley’s horse and carriage. The Queen and her attendants, who wear pink dresses and hats, wave to the crowd from the back of the cart. There is further footage of the procession and the band, and as the procession makes its way through the village streets, some of which are quite narrow at times, spectators walk alongside.
Everyone arrives at the village green, and a man helps the Queen and her attendants down from the back of the carriage. Other children from the village participate in a fancy dress competition. There are shots of the crowd of spectators before the Queen and her attendants make their way to a small raised platform in the middle of the field. The girls hold the Queen’s train as she walks to the stage where they all take a seat. The previous Queen, dressed in white, makes a speech to the audience before crowning the new Queen. After the new girl is crowned, she too says a few words to the audience. At one point, the crown has fallen over her head as it appears to be too big. The film closes with individual shots of different members of the crowd.
