The film begins with George putting decorations on a Christmas tree at his home at 15 Bolton St., Denaby Main, South Yorkshire.  This is followed by his mother, Alice, putting a turkey into a range oven.  They listen to a record on a portable record player, and a young girl, George’s niece Margaret, holds a puppy, also with Alice’s sister Lilly, in a blue cardigan, and George’s father, Edgar.  Then George and his nephew, David Tyas, play a game which involves moving markers around a model football pitch using dice, while the girl feeds the puppy.  Then David plays with an electric train set with his father looking on, and his mother, in green cardigan, and his cousin, Cynthia, also present.  Margaret plays with a puzzle and George pours himself a glass of beer.
