Part of the Smith Collection, this film is a compilation of weddings which took place in the early 1930s at the Guildhall in Hull. Most of the footage is taken from the steps of the Guildhall as the brides arrive and as the newlyweds exit the building after the ceremony. The film also contains footage of The Avenues covered in snow.
The film opens with a car pulling up to the entrance of the Guildhall. Carrying a large bouquet, the bride exits the car. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds exit the Hall, and they are covered in confetti. The wedding party stands behind them, and the group smile for the camera. The couple walk down the steps to a waiting car which takes them to the train station. There are many people on the platform at the station, and the couple wave from the window of the train as it departs. The wedding guests stay congregated on the platform for a bit after the train has left.
Wedding number 2: The bride and her father arrive in a car. They exit the car and pose outside for a picture before making their way into the Guildhall. The guests are on either side of the narrow entrance, and the busy street can be seen in the background. After the ceremony, the bride and groom exit the building arm-in-arm, and the wedding guests throw confetti which covers the couple. They pose with the wedding party before making their way past the cameraman and into a car which waits at the side of the road. The car drives off down the street, and a double-decker tram can be seen in the background. When the couple arrive at their destination, they are again covered in confetti before going into the reception hall. There is a brief shot of the bride and groom cutting the wedding cake, and when the reception is over, the newlyweds exit the building and get into a car. They are covered with confetti again, and the car drives away. The Vernon Heaton Company shop can be seen across the street.
At The Avenues, friends and family form a circle around the car and play ring-around-the-rosy. The car has writing on the back of it, though it is hard to make out exactly what it says. The car pulls away as the circle breaks, and the wedding guests still stand and chat in the tree-lined street. One of the men is wearing a top hat, and the wedding party pose for pictures on the lawn.
Wedding number 3: The bride and her father get out of the car as it arrives at the Guildhall. There is a bit of footage taken inside, though it is under-exposed and difficult to see. The newlyweds pose outside with the wedding party, and after the pictures, they make their way to the car. The guests mingle outside, and many of them are dressed in hats and fur coats.
The Avenues are covered in snow, and there is a dog playing in the street. A few pedestrians make their way along the sidewalk, and a cyclist and a few cars are visible on the street, though neither the walk nor street have been cleared of snow. Some of the local children have a big snowball fight.
Following this is more footage of another wedding. Many bridesmaids are the first to arrive, and they bride follows shortly thereafter. The wedding party make their way inside while other spectators wait outside the building. Inside, the couple and the wedding party pose for formal pictures by a large fireplace.
The film ends with one last wedding, and as the couple exit the building, the wedding guests hold up sets of oars for the couple to walk out under. They briefly pose for the camera before being covered with confetti as they get into a car and drive away.
