The film opens as children and chaperones stand grouped by a row of buses at the edge of a school property. Behind the buses are a row of houses, and groups of people wait on the playground. An elderly man watches. Footage is taken from the interior of the bus, and the cameraman films past children and out through the window as the children wave to those still on the playground. Through the back window of the first bus, the front of the second bus can be seen, and some of the students wave at the camera.
Outside the South Gate of London Zoo, groups of students and teachers make their way towards the Zoo entrance, queue up, and wave at the camera.
In a plush, green area of the zoo, two children ride past the camera on a camel, led by a zoo keeper. They are followed by two more children riding the camel. From outside the giraffe enclosure, a group of three giraffes can be seen munching on a tree. There is also a panda eating bamboo.
Two penguins swim under the surface of the water in the penguin enclosure. Another penguin hesitates by the side of the pool, possibly drinking, before diving in. The children peer over the wall of the enclosure and watch a penguin waddle up the steps.
At the coach park, a chaperone ducks as the camera films her walking past the bus. Another pair of chaperones wave to the camera as the usher some students aboard a coach.
London street scenes – there are shots of the pavement and queue of traffic ahead of the bus. The bus has stopped on Waterloo Bridge, and the children stand on the pavement beside the bus and wave at the camera. From the interior of the bus, the journey across Tower Bridge can be seen through the windscreen.
St Paul’s Cathedral can be seen from various angles, and the children play about on the front steps. Some of them perch on bollards along the roadside.
A beefeater/Yeoman Warder corrals crowds into a long, ordered line outside the entrance to the Tower of London. While queuing, various shots are taken of the Tower and ravens on the ground. People watch from crowded pavements as a troop of the Coldstream Guards march along the road towards the Tower, one sentry stands in his guard box. Two Yeoman Warders walk around in front of the tower. A group of students pose around a mounted gun and astride cannon. Other groups of students pose around other cannons in the grounds.
Children take it in turns posing in the sentry box, some saluting at the camera. They then all pose together outside the box and wave. There is more footage of the students at the Tower of London, and following this, the troop of Coldstream Guards marches away from the tower, towards the camera, before turning and curving away.
Exterior, sign for ‘The Old Curiosity Shop, immortalised by Charles Dickens.’ The camera zooms back out and shows the whole shop front.
At Trafalgar Square, two boys sit atop the lion statue. The camera zooms in on them and then on the head of the lion. From behind and above the lion the camera films down towards the fountain. Children wave from the statue as the camera pans across the Square. Children feed and play with the pigeons, close ups of individual children playing with the birds. The entire group sits in a school picture formation - of three rows - at the base of Nelson’s column and wave at the camera. The camera pans up the column and zooms in on that statue of Nelson.
A horse guard - on horseback stands on guard outside Whitehall and a policeman stands guard outside 10 Downing Street.
The students visit other famous London sites: the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus, standing outside the gates of Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard. The gates open and the band of the Coldstream Guards marches out. The group poses together and waves goodbye. The film closes with a shot of a boy who is asleep on the coach home.
