The film opens with shots of Bootham School students (male) competing in sporting events that include sprints, hurdles, discus and long jump. The students predominantly wear white vests and shorts and a crowd can be seen gathered on the field, huddling around each event.
Title - Glimpses from 1933-35 and 36.
Title - 100 yards.
The filmmaker captures the older boys competing in the 100 yard sprints as they race off from the start line.
Title - Energetic 'infants'.
Younger boys are then shown crossing a finish line.
Title - Hurdles.
Older students compete in a hurdles competition.
Title - How it should be done.
A rather graceful student breezes over the hurdles with apparent ease.
Title - Another British heavyweight in the making?
Title - Jumps.
A group of students and teachers gather round a high jump bar and watch as several students make their jumps. The bar is then raised, before a shot shows a photographer taking a picture.
Title- That's wan.
Title - and now he'll have to take another.
The photographer takes another shot. The high jump sequence continues before the action turns to the long jump contest.
Title - This fellow was last seen soaring northwards.
A student completes a very impressive long jump and the spectators applaud his efforts.
Title - Discus.
Several discus throws are captured. The throws are then measured by some of the sports day officials; generally older men in dark suits.
Title - Wight putting.
A shot putt event becomes the focus for a time, with the distance of each throw measured.
Title - Wight-cum-ballet.
Younger students take throws with the shot-putt, with their technique appearing more graceful than powerful.
Title - M-I-L-E.
Long distance running events are captured, with older boys racing round the grass track in tight groups. The winner then crosses the ticker tape, with an official recording his time.
Title - Athlete's all.
A brief shot shows a group of toddlers playing with toys on the grass.
Title - Trainer Edmunson weighs up form.
A bespectacled man watches the long distance race. A wearing long winter coat and trilby walks along the rows of spectators, before the race resumes. The final shot in this sequence shows a bespectacled man wearing a dark suit talking at the camera.
Title - Then they told him the one about Hitler.
The bespectacled man laughs before more shots show the race and winners crossing the finish line.
Title - After four years sport we'd better have some trophies.
Still on the field, a close up shows two trophies on a table (one slightly larger than the other). The smaller trophy is presented to a student by a woman wearing a bonnet, and he walks out of shot to the audience's applause. Another boy, wearing a light sweater receives the more impressive trophy from the woman and the final shot shows him on the shoulders of the jubilant crowd as they pass the camera.
