Title- Bootham School 1976
The film opens an exterior view of the Bootham School as two pupils walk through the courtyard.
Title - Summer Diversions.
A wide view captures a crane and the construction site with scaffolding around a Bootham School building. The crane lowers a long metal girder onto the roof of the building. A group of students climb a tree using harnesses and appropriate safety gear.
Title - Cricket.
The filmmaker captures a cricket match on a sprawling lush green. Younger students sit on the side-lines watching the match and some students practice in the nets. The filmmaker also uses some slow motion shots to capture a bowler as he takes his run up.
Title - Tennis.
Shots capture students playing tennis on a concrete surface and the filmmaker captures some of the rallies, paying close attention to the students serving.
Title - Swimming.
Shots shows students taking turns to dive into a pool while a PE teacher stands watch on the side-lines. The students use a front crawl and butterfly stroke to swim the length of the pool and several races are captured.
Title - Natural History.
Students, many of whom wear winter clothing, stand on a rocky beach on a dull, grey day and comb the rocks for fossils and shells. There is then a brief shot of a student holding up a crab, before a group lift large rocks and discover a star fish beneath one.
Moving away from the beach, a man sets a small trap in some long grass, and returns later to find a field mouse trapped inside. Removing the mouse, he holds it up to the camera before placing it back in the trap. Several shots capture the mouse eating leaves and flowers on a student's arm. The sequence concludes with students handling snakes.
Title - Old Scholars weekend.
A workman climbs a ladder onto a building roof, where he then attempts to take down a sort of scarecrow from the weather main. Shots then show older pupils (possibly ex-students) standing around the garden courtyard with 1970s long hair-cuts and sporting leather jackets. An elevated show briefly shows the busy car park, before moving on to see guest arriving through the entrance in a steady stream; all from a variety of different generations. The filmmaker then gets amongst the guests and captures them meeting and greeting and generally mingling.
Title- Visitors.
Shot captures two men chatting before pupils point of windows to a good year blimp in the sky, and other students stand in the playground pointing up to the sky.
Title - Sailing.
This sequence opens with two red sail boats drifting across a lake, while others prepare their boats placing the rudder at the stern. As the sequence continues with more generic shots of sailing a boat is shown to have capsized. A proficient student is then shown swinging the boat round at speed.
Title - Canoeing.
The next sequence opens with a view of some fast moving rapids. Students are then captured as they make their way down street in Canoes, steering between the rocks
Title - Rock Climbing.
The filmmaker captures several shots of a steep cliff face and there are shots of students ascending the rocks using ropes and other climbing equipment.
Title - Water Skiing.
This sequence features many shots of students water-skiing on a lake.
Title - Parents Weekend.
Initially shots show some badges on the vehicles belonging to the parents, which include a Rolls Royce and a Range Rover. The sequence concludes with elevated views of parents and Bootham School staff gathering in the courtyard outside the Bootham School Hall.
Title - Hot Weather.
A male student lounges out on the grass in the sun, while others hide from the heat indoors. Some students are then shown repairing what looks like air vent and the final shot shows another student sun bathing.
Title - Examinations.
Students head into the Bootham School hall, where inside they sit their exams in long rows of desks.
Title - Team Photographs.
Various shots show different sporting team's from Bootham School lining up to pose for the camera; some wear suits, while the cricket and swimming team wear their sporting togs.
Title - York festival.
The filmmaker captures the scenes of an outdoor theatre in York, where the students are putting on a performance which involves complex sets, period costumes and a live donkey. The filmmaker also captures many shots of the crowds.
Title - Aero models.
On a green, students make last minute adjustments to their aero models and then the filmmaker captures some as they take flight.
Title - Decorating.
Students, wearing white overalls, are shown outside a slightly run down building re-painting the veranda. The next shot shows a train pulling into a station and students disembarking. The next sequence captures a croquet game followed by students having fun in a swimming pool.
Following this, a large crowd gathers round three girls siting on the grass with their legs in stocks. Other students then proceed to take turns in throwing soft water balls at them.
Title - Leavers.
This sequence begins with a school photo with students sat in different rows on a green. Students, along with their parents, then file into the school hall for a luncheon, which the filmmaker captures. Next, outside the school a minivan is loaded with what appears to be camping gear, and the students pack a board before the van sets off. More shots capture people packing stuff into cars and onto roof racks. The final shot shows a group standing in an empty room.
Title - The End.
