Title - Autumn term 1939
The film opens with several exterior views of Bootham School and other shots capture the playing fields and surround grounds. A long line of youngish male students run from the building and streak across a field; all wear sports attire. The students then return to the school.
The next sequence shows students in long winter coats approaching the school entrance and walking up the steps. More scenes show students on cross country runs through the grounds, before a sequence captures students sedately walking through the grounds.
The next sequence opens with the boys making repair work to an outbuilding; some boys stand on the roof, hammering in waterproof material round the edges. Students in uniform then exit the school, taking a piece of bread from a man holding a basket. A brief shot shows a group of boys playing conquers, before the next show shows the boys painting a fence. A boy with a broom pushes water of a concrete surface so a roller hockey match can take place and the boys zip around the concrete pitch on roller skates.
A man wearing a long trench coat walks past the camera carrying a canvas rucksack, before a wide shot shows the exterior of the school. A close up then shows a sign that reads, Bootham school, and the camera pans across to the door which has a plaque that reads, 'York county hospital extension'. A small blue bus filled with students pulls up to the curb and the students disembark and walk down a street of with houses that have pillared entrances.
The next sequences open with a football match; the boys kick off and rush into the opposing side's territory. The film closes with views of the spectators enjoying the match.
