Title- Railwayana 1961-1966
Title-Low Moor Visitors
A railway worker works on a steam engine and attaches lights to it; soon after that the train leaves the station. There is a brief shot of several men in suits and coats walking across the tracks towards the camera. There are several more shots of steam trains and electric trains driving into and out of the station.
Title-West Coast Main Line
The camera takes a shot from a train platform and pans across to capture a steam train as it arrives into the station. Two more trains pass each other and then there is a shot of the `West Bank' signal office. The signal men close and then open the gates on the tracks in order to let a train through; a man in the signal office takes something from a man leaning out of the train as it passes.
There is a sequence of shots taken from a height looking down onto the train tracks, as well as shots taken from beside the tracks, looking at the train gates as they open and close.
There is a shot taken from the top of a hill following a steam train as it makes its way through the countryside. There is a sign for the Tebay station in Cumbria and then a steam train speeds into the station.
Title-Midland Country
The next scene takes place in the country side where the camera is positioned beside the tracks and films the trains as they pass by.
There are many shots taken from a platform capturing the trains coming in and out as well as capturing construction work that is being carried out in the background; train engine number 73001 drives into the station. There is another long sequence of shots watching many different steam trains driving though the station. There are also brief shot of several different ticket types.
There is a short black and white section which contains footage of train spotters standing on the side of the track and watching and steam engines pass by. Lots of men get off the train at North Road train station near Darlington, walk across the bridge and out of the station.
Back in the station, there is an out of service train engine at rest in a garage section of the station; there is a close up of a train badge on the side which reads` British Railways'.
Back to colour
There are lingering shots taken from the train as it drives along the tracks, through towns, and across bridges.
The train stops at Blaydon near Tyne and Wear where crowds of people have gathered on the platform.
Title-Shunting A1 Guiseley
There are more shots of steam engines driving along the track.
Title-Alberta
A sign on a building reads `British Rail Piccadilly' and this is accompanied by shots of trains coming into the station. There are more shots of the trains taken from outside and shots taken from the train as it goes through countryside.
Title-The End.
