This is a film that appears to be made as a test having bought a new camera. After showing some of the family neighbourhood, the film shows York City Centre as it was in 1968 before pedestrianisation. The film begins with a woman, possibly Mrs W Smith, sitting in her living room, looking at the camera and talking. The film switches to showing a street of semi-detached houses, with children running, possibly taken from their front garden. The filmmaker is testing the sound. Looking the other way there is another street busy with traffic. On another street a lorry turns a corner and there is a milk float. Cars are parked in the city centre, where there are two red phone boxes. There are shops, including W. P. Brown drapers, near Newgate Market. Cars go down Davygate. Other shops are Timothy Whites and David Blackstone, the opticians. It is busy with pedestrians and cars. Across the road is the Tiger Inn public house. Woolworth's is seen on Coney Street (where Boots now is), looking down Market Street. Garnham, the carpet shop, can also be seen. The film switches to an aerial display over some fields. Finally the film comes to an end showing a repeated image of an elderly woman speaking to the camera stating that, "the next two films you are about to see were made some time ago, I hope you will enjoy them."
