Two presenters introduce themselves: one is the manager of the NASA's Digital Network, while the other is an expert on the Viking mission. The presenter then remarks that this is a live webcast, "So there is probably a pretty large international audience watching this". He then introduces the first school, Newman School, who are connected via webcam.

Two students are then shown in the classroom, and a male pupil in a wheelchair wears a Viking helmet. The student says hello to the presenters, and ask if they can see and hear him. The presenter then asks them where is Rotherham? Another student answers, stating it is in South Yorkshire.
They then ask the expert several questions about the possibility of one day living on Mars, to which he replies that the chances are unlikely due the number of differences between the planets, specifically sighting ultra violet radiation as a major problem. The students of Newman school then ask whether it is possible to get Mars faster than the Viking mission, which took eleven months. The expert says no, unless more efficient rockets fuels emerge. The presenters then thank the schools for their questions and says goodbye.
