This film is a documentation of a simulated road accident on the M.62 motorway days before it was opened. Pertaining to upmost realism, the mock car accidents and injuries ensure that emergency crews treat the simulation as if it were a genuine accident, and shots capture the crews working hard to help the victims, whilst clearing the road of any hazards. The film opens with shots of a simulated motorway accident showing crushed cars, smoking wreckages and injured people on the ground being helped by emergency service crews. Title - Motorway accident. The film opens with a POV shot of a car travelling down a stretch of the M62. The voiceover states that this short film is a record of a motorway accident simulation that took place on the M62 near Scammonden, a few days prior to the length of motorway being opened. The voiceover also says it's important to note that "most of the emergency servicemen involved had no previous experience dealing with accidents on motorways." A shot shows a man wearing a suit calling the accident on a roadside telephone, and he says, "It's a real bad one". A shot then shows the message being relayed over a radio. A patrol car pulls up on the opposite side of the road of the accident, and the police officers rushes over to the site. A shot then shows the officer requesting backup on the radio. Traffic cones are then laid out along the road by an officer wearing an orange reflective jacket. The officer then places out advanced warning signs on the approach side of the accident. Shots capture the signs, which read, 'Police accident' and 'police slow'. Police officers then tend to the person trapped in the overturned car, and shots show an officer moving an injured party to a safe place further down the road, where he tends to her simulated wounds. The police car then arrives having driven onto the accident side of the motorway, and a close up shows its flashing blue light missing a bulb, with the voiceover stating that checking equipment is working properly is an essential duty of any police officer. Another police vehicle arrives and a road sign is taken from the back, which indicates to drivers that they must change lanes. An ambulance arrives on the scene - on the opposite side of the dual carriageway. Dropping off a medic, the ambulance continues driving on and the filmmaker follows the medic, who runs across the tarmac to assist the injured. The ambulance arrives on the right side of the dual carriageway and parks close as possible to be injured. A fire engine stops on the opposite side of the dual carriageway to let out the fire crew. As they cross the road, the voiceover states that so many people crossing the road shows inexperience, and leaves a lot to be desired as it is hazardous to other motorists. Fire and ambulance vehicles arrive on the right side of the road and stop. The fire crew rush out and prepare their equipment. A fire is shown on one of damaged cars; the voiceover says that it is a delayed fire possibly caused by an overheated electrical circuit. Smoke billows out from the car as emergency crews swarm around the area. A fireman starts the valves for the hose and a fireman is then filmed putting out the car blaze. An ambulance then drives off carrying some injured parties. Firemen then work to cut out the man trapped in the car. A firemen use an electric saw to remove the roof. Shots capture medics tending to an injured man with a large plaster round his head. He is then placed on a stretcher and carried to the ambulance. The fire crew then exit. A police land rover uses its attached winch to remove a damaged car from the road. A tow truck arrives and tows the truck away.
