The voice over says to take a look back at the way life was and compare it with the way life is today. He talks about what people did back then and how dark clothing was popular due to all of the smoke in the air. This is accompanied with more still photographs of a policeman, industrial chimneys, a nanny and baby, children in baths, and streets with houses. He continues on to say that some of the houses are still around but the rest were demolished to make room for the modern world. There is a brief shot of a man walking his dog in an area that has had most of the buildings demolished.
The voice over talks about the changes in transport especially the car. There are photographs of old cars and buses and then shots of a man and a woman driving along in an early car. Through edited shots the cars become more and more modern until they are on a motorway. The voice over says that the development of cars and roads led to problems of noise, pollution and difficulty crossing the road in towns.
The next section is about the development of shopping centres and the decline in corner shops. There are shots of a busy Morrisons store and busy car park. Then the voice over talks about how dangerous the roads are and how it is hard to cross them; he details the best way to do it.
There are more shots of people of all ages trying to cross the road and of large amounts of traffic. There are comparisons of today's streets and roads to those from the early 19th century, there are photographs of the quiet streets with just tram driving along. The voiceover talks again about how it is very important to find a safe place to cross the road and to be seen at night. This is followed by more shots of people crossing in the middle of the road, at pedestrian crossing and using subway crossings.
The film ends with the same crest.
