This film documents police operations during a T.U.C march in Bradford, 1981. The film follows the protectors as they march through Bradford city centre.
The film opens with TUC supporters talking to a female police officer by a large set of park gates, and several supporters wear blue coats with various badges pinned to them. Supporters then get off a coach and are greeted by the demonstrators who hand them leaflets. Various shots capture officers on the scene, watching patiently, before there are views of the supporters beginning to gather in the park; many have collection buckets and move between crowds. Mounted police then trot towards the camera, before the next shot shows more supporters getting off buses with their homemade plaques.
The filmmaker gets a shot of car park, which is completely full with coaches. Large groups of officers the move down a street, before more shots show the T.U.C rally in the park growing in size. The filmmaker then gets shots of some of the banners, which read 'National union of Dyers, Bleachers & textile workers', 'If the Tories get up your nose - Picket- put Thatcher on the dole' and 'Transport and general workers union'. A sweeping shot captures the mass demonstration in the park fields, with a brass band in sight, and a platform being prepared for speeches.
Officers continue to patrol the local streets, and, in one particular shot, a group can be seen huddled together down a street. Mounted officers stand in foreground, while the T.U.C. supporters stand behind in a procession formation. The filmmaker gets shots of some of the lead supporters, who are older males wearing trench coats, while a couple of T.U.C stewards - wearing reflective armbands - can be seen talking to a senior police officer. The mounted unit lead the demonstration out of the park, and the procession files past the camera - giving good shots of many of the supporters and their banners.
A female officer in reflective jacket can be seen diverting traffic. Policemen then form around the entrance of the park as more demonstrators pass, including the brass band. As they move down streets, past lines of traffic, policemen can be seen escorting the demonstrators, and the supporters are clearly from diverse backgrounds. The lengthy procession continues down more streets in Bradford, watched closely by police motorcycles and squad cars, and there are shots on different streets from various angles, capturing the banners, plaques and protestors themselves. The filmmaker then shows a shot of people watching the demonstration from the pavement, before the procession moves down a sloping road, where a mounted officer approaches the camera with the large crowd behind him.
The filmmaker then gets amongst the protestors capturing close ups of some of their faces as they move by. The supporters then gathers around Bradford Town Hall, where the filmmaker gets a close up of the clock face. Moving on, the filmmaker walks along with some of the marching band, and there are shots of people filming the demonstration form a roof top high above. The supporters then congregate in large square in the centre of Bradford, blocking the roads completely; the camera pans across the square to show a raised platform where speakers have assembled. An officer leads a group of elderly ladies through the crowd, and shot captures the procession moving on again. The final shots of this film show supporters and policemen moving through the centre of Bradford.
