This film, made by West Yorkshire Metropolitan Police, documents two annual police parades in Leeds. The filmmaker pays close attention to the various units (Calvary, canine and motor) involved in the parade, and there are several shots of prevalent senior police officials and local VIP's, who attend the event. There are also good shots of Leeds Parish church.
The film opens with a shot of police officers on horseback waiting beside special police horse boxes, while many officers stand in organised rows. Close ups then show several signs that police are holding and they read, 'Dog section', 'special constabulary', 'Cadet Corps', 'Number 2 area' and 'number 3 area'.
An officer then brushes down a horse leg, while another officer sits astride the horse. A senior officer is then captured addressing the rows of male and female officers. There are then shots of a Leeds Parish church clock tower, before shots capture a police marching band walking down a street, followed by officers on horseback. Officers standing outside the Parish Church usher in important guests, many of whom wear smart casual wear. The sequence closes with an officer saluting the camera.
Members of the congregation, wearing white robes, then file out of the church, waiting in a line as the VIPs exit and get into their cars. Senior police officers are then captured shaking the hands of several important attendees and a few shots capture some of party smiling. An officer with a dog then keeps watch from a street corner, before there is a shot of clock the Parish Church again, and another shot that shows a police badge on the side of a squad car.
Officers in tight formation march down a street past the church; first to go past are the constable's foot, followed by canine handlers, and finally officers on horseback. The filmmaker then captures an expansive view of a busy street in Leeds, and the parade of officers can be seen stretching the entire length of the pavement, with their arms moving in unison. Officers on horseback trot past the camera; quickly followed by the marching brass band. Various shots then capture the parade moving down more streets.
The next sequence opens with a senior officer saluting, while the VIPs are captured standing outside a building with a raised entrance. The parade of officers then marches past, and there are a few glimpses of members of the public watching from the pavement opposite. A motorcade of squad cars then follows.
This next film contains a similar parade from another year (it is not clear what is the dated the latter). The opening shots show several quick views of the people taking part in the procession: these include a brass band, many officers on foot and some officers on horseback. There are then panoramic views of Leeds from an elevated position. The procession movies off, making its way down from a hill high above Leeds with the brass band leading, followed by tight, organised row of constables marching.
As the parade moves further into the centre of Leeds there are shots of the procession - particularly of the band and the officers on horseback. Outside a church, a reverend in a white shall greets people as they exit the church; many of the women wear smart hats and coats, while the men wear suits and ties. More people exit the church and the filmmaker pays close attention to some of the senior police officers. The procession of marching constables then moves past the church. A fire engine then rushes past the camera, before a police motorcycle rider is filmed travelling ahead of the parade.
The next sequence captures a senior officer, who stands on a raised platform outside the church, saluting the soldiers as they march by; canine units, officers on horseback and squad cars also file past. The final shot shows the senior officer holding his salute.
