Title - Sun Sand Sails
Great Yarmouth and Norfolk Broads
The camera looks at a street, with a road sign visible giving directions for Lowestoft (A12), Caister (A149) and Norwich (A47). In the background is a building with a sign for "Steward and Patterson". A woman and man cross the street in the foreground. She wears a long polka dot skirt and bool cardigan. He wears trousers and a blue wool jacket.
There is a busy street with shops that have awnings pulled down. One awning clearly has "Boots" printed on it. A van goes by: "Taylor's for confectionary".
Britannia Pier is very busy. There are various signs for rides and attractions. A bus passes (the number one) bound for Caister-on-Sea. There is also a shot of the Royal Aquarium.
Some old men play bowls, and a few of the men are also smoking pipes. People watch from behind iron railings, including two old women who wear woollen hats of the same style, one being red and one being blue.
There is a lawn clock with flowers around it spelling out "A good time at Great Yarmouth". There are then more shots of town gardens and flowers.
A group of people sit on a boat with a highly colourful and decorative fish figurehead going along a river. A man in a white sailor's outfit steers from the back. Other people go round in pedal boats.
There is a horse drawn cart with three people, including a little girl, going fairly fast around a garden area. Another cart has two young children sitting at the front and a man running alongside to guide them. There is also a man sitting in the back.
The camera looks at a crazy golf course. In the background is a building with a windmill on the front, and a sign for a fiftieth anniversary. On the course, amongst many other people, are two women wearing matching yellow tops and black cropped trousers.
A crowd gathers around a stall that says "Eastern Princess for Scroby Island". On the boat, older people sit in chairs arranged on rows on the deck. Younger people stand and look over the side. Two girls (one quite young, maybe around eight, and the other perhaps around thirteen) wear sailors' hats and smile for the camera.
On a small motor boat, a boy and his father sit at the front and behind them sit the mother and the two girls from the previous scene. The boy drives, and behind the steering wheel are some simple instructions carved into the wood of the dash. The younger girl looks out toward the water and laughs. There are swans swimming near the river bank, and a windmill in the background.
From land, the camera watches an old lady fish. There are then shots of quaint country houses. One has carved into a beam: "At evening time there shall be light". There are also shots of a church and then more of the boat.
The family have a picnic. The mother fries tomatoes over a portable gas stove. They eat with knives and forks over a blanket which is laid out on the ground. More footage of the boat and scenery follows.
Back at the promenade, there are stalls with signs including: "Wall's", "Regent Tea Saloon" and "Lyon's Ice Cream". They sell things like beach balls and buckets and spades. There is then brief footage of a car merry-go-round.
The beach is very crowded with deck chairs. The two girls wear matching white outfits with little flowers. The younger girl has two ice creams, one of which she hands to her sitting mother. A man sells fruit on the beach out of two baskets. Another basket shown sat in the sand contains toys and games.
The children (now in swimming costumes, and the girls with swimming caps) now play in the sand. The boy and older girl bury the younger girl. Then they go and paddle and swim.
There are several shots of different fairground rides and then there is a night time scene. The "Pleasure Beach" sign is shown in lights, and all the rides are similarly lit. The camera looks over the illuminations. Signs include: "Dodgem Fun Land" and "Waterways".
Title - Au Revoir 1958
The end title is made up of letters in sand.
