This footage comes from a set of five films which were shot by pupils of Ellerby Lane Primary School in Leeds between 1951- 1953. This particular piece of film shows people walking around the grounds of Fountains Abbey in what is most likely 1952.
A line of people walk around the ruined abbey. Amongst the crowd there is a person in a wheelchair and a large dog. Three men stand in a row, the middle one pointing up at the abbey and talking. There are shots of the architecture, the arches and tower, interspersed with people walking around. The camera looks down on a group of four girls, two sitting in a hole in the wall of the abbey and two leant against it. They all wear long, full skirts and cardigans.
People stand down by the riverside, the background lined with trees. One boy and three girls all look across the river and point. Ahead of them is a statue, and further ahead of that is a white, columned building.
