Part of the Wilkinson collection, this film features a school children's group participating in arts and crafts activities at St Mary's Church Hall in Beighton on Good Friday.
The film begins showing the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Beighton, with the sound of traffic and bird song in the background. There is a restoration appeal. Inside the Church hall a woman hangs a large banner of a cross, and children are busy helping out. A man appears and speaks to the camera explaining that it is 10 am on Good Friday and that they are looking at activities of the school children group. One of the helpers explains that children are painting a banner symbolising the last supper. The children, of different ages, are arranged around several tables, each painting a different part of the banner and other objects to depict the Easter story. Helpers are working with the children to make their paintings and objects, such as Easter eggs, using scissors and glue. They use 'The Spring Activity Book'.
One of the older girls, Adele, is making unleavened bread. One of the women helpers hangs the finished eggs on a small tree. The vicar walks past. The children display their work with their names: Rachael Holson, Liam Brown, Michael Clark, Andrew, Bethany, Helen, Leanne, Daniel. One small girl poses with a card she has made. Jammy Dodgers are put onto plates and drinks are poured. They then perform a play enacting the Easter story, starting with Jesus' re-entry into Jerusalem. The banner is shown pinned up on the wall. Inside the church, cleaning is taking place in preparation for the Easter services. Back in the Church Hall a woman sorts through all the left-over craft implements and materials from the day before. Another helper, Rosemary, comes up through the trapdoor carrying a box of plastic bottles. Elsewhere flowers are placed into vases.
