Part of the Wilkinson collection, this film features the Wilkinson family visiting Whitby, Hornsea, Withernsea and Robin Hood's Bay. Mrs Wilkinson provides a commentary.
The film opens showing a placard titled 'Whitby and Whaling', giving an account of whaling in Whitby between 1753 and 1833. It then shows the whale jawbone at Whitby and the two piers with their lighthouses. A fisherman sits on the side of his boat filleting fish from their fresh catch. St Mary's Church is seen up on the hill. Various boats are in the harbour. A car and a lorry are followed as they drive up towards the Abbey. Whitby is shown from several vantage points, including from the top of the "Church Stairs". People are walking on the beach and there is a Punch and Judy show, with the watching children and getting excited.
The film moves on to Hornsea Sailing Club at Hornsea Mere on a wet day. Here boats are moored at the side of the lake. Then on to Withernsea and a desolate sea front. They walk around Minivale Model Village, which is shown in detail, before moving onto the town centre, with its lighthouse. They then go to Robin Hood's Bay, where they walk down some long steps and look in the shops. On the beach a man makes shell, or sea urchin, ornaments. The houses can be seen on top of the cliff. The boys look for starfish and crabs on the seashore with a fishing net.
