This is a film showing various aspects of family life in the summer and winter, including playing in the garden, visiting relatives, at the beach, in the snow, a wedding and out in the country. The film is made up of both colour and black and white footage and is identified as such in the following description.
Col. A girl in a garden is holding a small bird in her hand. She is joined by an older boy who holds it and it hops onto his arm. Their mother then takes the bird, puts it back in his hand, and strokes it. The father is holding a small girl which he places on a toy dog on wheels. The mother pushes a small girl around the garden, and then the older girl does the same. Two women are lounging on garden chairs, joined by a girl. The girl is then running on the garden lawn, with her mother, where a tent has been erected.
The film switches to three women talking in a street having just got out of a parked car. They look and laugh at the camera. The film switches again to some children tobogganing down a snowy slope, and digging up the snow.
B&W The film switches to several children riding around a garden on bikes. A smaller girl tries on one of their safety helmets and rides around herself. The garden backs onto a countryside scene. The film switches again to a beach, possibly Filey, where a man on a horse is leading a boy and a girl on ponies.
Col. Back at the house a girl in red, carrying a doll, is accompanied by a woman and an older girl walking around the back of a house where they are greeted by two elderly women. One of the women shows off a birthday cake. They all come out of the house into the garden. Some women are then walking around a village where a man is cutting his hedge. Two girls paint the front door of the house white. Back in the garden a man plays with a dog. Two women go through a gate leading to a country house, and there are three bridesmaids at a wedding. More guests arrive, and the bridesmaids pose with the bride and groom for photographs. More photos are taken in the grounds of a large house with a lake.
The film then switches to the timber yard of Charles Black. There is a sign for 'Charles Black and Sons Ltd Importers and Sawmillers'. The film switches to some women in the grounds of a house in the country in summer, surrounded by fields, before switching again to show the same fields covered in snow. Then back to the summer with two women in garden chairs facing a hilly landscape, with the two girls again painting the front door. Some women and some girl guides are in a village by a well dressing, and then a woman prunes a tree in her garden. Two women and a man show off the tree. Back at the timber yard a truck is loading gravel into a lorry. A family group are next to a memorial stone, and some of them paint a garden fence and the film comes to an end.
