This is a film of the Monaco Grand Prix 1950, showing a car's journey to the Grand Prix and parts of two races. Title - En route for the Monaco Grand Prix 1950 (b&w) A car is being loaded onto a ship by crane. The ship departs from Dover and the car is unloaded in France. Out on a country road a woman sits in the driver's seat overlooking a river. There are sailing boats in a harbour. The woman is next walking across a bridge and another bridge is seen further away. Back with the car (BLF 870) which is on a road with a sign for ' Furstentum Liechstein'. Next the car is parked in a town near the checkpoint and then on a mountain road. It stops by some hotels with snow all around, and then looks down onto a river and then a mountain car, from which the mountain is filmed. On top of the mountain some people take in the view. A man shows an officer his papers. There is a village in the mountain and more of a river. (col) There is a view onto a mountain road running along the coast. A VW comes down the road. Intertitle - Lake Garda - Italy Mussolini's favourite resort. The lake and the surrounding scenery is shown, end two cyclists go down a mountain road towards a tunnel. The car is parked up in a village by the lake where some women are mending fishing nets. Intertitle - Arc De Triomphe from 'old ben' (shots by the missus!!) Cars go around the roundabout at the Arc De Triomphe. (B&W) The film continues from the inside of a moving Rolls Royce through the streets of Paris, including the Champs-Elys?e, with the film speeding up. Intertitle - 500 cc race (the little 'uns) The race is filmed through the deserted streets. Intertitle - the grand prix The cars are lined up at the side get last minute checks. Photographers group around the drivers. The cars are lined up ready to go, and they are off. Intertitle - the pile up!! A crash has taken place, there is liquid over the road and other cars slip on it. Stewards push the cars out of the way. One car, number 24, has its front end smashed in. The race continues. Intertitle - concertina cars!! At the side of the race track, as the cars go whizzing past, four cars are in a line top-to-tail. The race is filmed from various vantage points and angles before coming to an end.
