Title - 'Orford film presents'.
Title - 'Finding England - Produced by J.W. Gillot'.
Title - Garden Isle
Title - The great port of Southampton, sheltered by the Garden Isle.
In the opening shot of this film, the camera is placed aboard a motor boat and captures several shots of a decrepit steam liner.
Title - The Queen Elizabeth is refitting for her maiden voyage across the Atlantic.
From the docks bank, the filmmaker captures the Queen Elizabeth passenger ship from several different angles.
Title - Across the smooth waters of the Solent, white sails are seen at West Cowes.
Now on the Isle of Wight, a stretch of open sea is populated by a throng of white sail boats navigating the calm waters, while in the foreground, a man wearing a trilby looks out across the Solent. Following this, a group of children dressed in formal attire of that period, sit at the tip of a pier watching the sail boats.
Title - West and East Cowes are linked by a chain ferry.
A group of prospective passengers wait on the bank as a chain ferry crosses the water separating the two Cowes. The passengers disembark from the ferry, and a high percentage of them propel traditionally styled push chairs onto the shore.
Title - Units of the fleet lie off Ryde's great pier, the principal gateway to the Isle of Wight.
The filmmaker captures various shots of anchored battle ships and aircraft carriers from a ferry. Next, the ferry is docked quayside, as passengers carrying various articles of hand luggage cross a gangplank onto the dock. A crane hoists more substantial pieces of luggage onto shore, and in this shot, the ships name, 'Whippingham', is clearly visible. Cutting away from the dock, the filmmaker captures various different trains as they enter a station situated by the sea.
Title - A short train journey takes us to Newport, capital of the Island.
On a street in Newport, people walk along a street lined by automobiles of that period. The filmmaker then focuses on a house balcony, which has the Isle of Wight crest set into it. Cutting to a busy street scene; clearly in the centre of the town, the filmmaker captures children cycling through the streets, people walking, and a shop called 'Burtons'. Next, the camera, which is now situated in St James's square, captures the statue of Queen Victoria from different angles, and in the background is 'Weeks's restaurant'.
Title - Overlooking Newport stands Carisbrooke castle, residence of the governor of the island.
Three tourists stand outside the entrance, as the camera pans up to reveal the extravagant exterior of Carisbrooke castle. Following this, there are various shots of the castle grounds; various stone archways, castle walls and a moat inhabited by a lone swan.
Title - Midway between Newport and Shanklin, lies the village of Godshill, a perfect gem set in rose gardens and thatch.
As a green bus bound for Newport drives towards the camera, a sign in the foreground is partially illegible, but what can be read suggests a link to the thatched cottages which stand behind the sign. Succeeding this, are myriads of shots showing archaic houses with thatched roofing, and in the final shot of this sequence, a stone tower surmounts a group of thatched dwellings.
Title - Shanklin has a scenic beauty of its own.
A panoramic view of Shanklin beach reveals a long pier and cliffs. An older couple climb a stone path - defined by flowers - up one of the cliffs. Next, nestled amongst the foliage, a sign written in ye olde English alludes to the beauty of the coastline. From the beach, the filmmaker captures a shot of the pier and then focuses on a black poodle pup which plays fetch on the beach with its owner.
Title - Shanklin's charming old village and it historic hotels.
Various shots of the old villiage; houses with thatched roofs and several hotel exteriors which include the 'Crab hotel' and the 'Daish Hotel', and in a totally unrelated shot, a crow perches on a girls hand.
Title - At Ventor, the Island can be traversed very quickly.
A model of the Isle of Wight is placed in the centre of an oval paddling pool, and children walk across it. Following this is an expansive view of Ventor beach from an elevated postion; holiday makers spread out across the sand, leaving only a minimal space between each group, while boats idle around the shore line.
Title -A verdant coastline stretches from Ventnor to St. Katherine's light house, southernmost coast point of the island.
From the interior of a ferry, the filmmaker captures passengers looking out the window at long stretches of coastline.
Title - AT BLACKGANG CHINE some queer little men collect for charity.
Traditional garden gnomes sit around a ceramic toad stall, which visitors drop change into. A faux singing canary is also a donation receptacle, and in the plastic cage has a note inside.
Title - Wester Wight is characterised by quiet lanes and thatched cottages.
In this sequence there is a multitude of shots showing thatched houses situated on country lanes.
Title - Winkle street, Calbourne.
A stream lavishly enveloped by multi-coloured flowers lies in the garden of a row of terraced houses, which people walk through.
Title - In the south west corner of the Island, visitors scale the cliffs at Alum Bay, for souvenirs of the coloured sands.
Opening shot in this sequence reveals the beach and cliffs of Alum bay. Next, people have scaled some of the more gentle gradients to retrieve the sand. A couple on the beach fill a test tube-like container with the collected sand.
Title - The needle rocks, our farewell to the Garden Isle and to the outbound voyage, his last sight of England.
From ferry interior various shots of bright white cliffs.
Title - The end.
