Title - 'Finding England - Produced by J.W. Gillot'.
Title - 'Seasons in the peak'.
Title - 'Spring sunshine casts its first warm glow over the hills of the peak'.
The film opens with a shot of the peaks illuminated in sunshine. A woman then walks across a relatively small stone bridge.
Title - A rare beauty now clothes the soft hued stone of those nestling cottages.
A tree emblazoned with red leaves stands in front of a stone house surrounded by other trees with bare branches. This is followed by a couple, who, dressed in fairly formal attire, walk down a road whilst looking into a house front garden lavishly decorated by multi-coloured flowers. The filmmaker then cuts to a church tower set against a backdrop of steep peaks and dense foliage. An expansive view of the peak landscape reveals a bus weaving between the windy roads in the distance.
Cutting away from the landscape, the filmmaker turns his attention to a pair of live chickens making their way across a buttercup field. A small pond is situated next to a house, and two men with appropriate clothing, such as wellington boots, stand on the bank fishing. Next, a cow becomes the focus, several shots shows it pen and a man petting it.
Title - Now summer flowers, pressed into clay by here craftsman, make pictures over wells in the thanksgiving for the waters.
'Praise' is written with mosaicked tiles and summer flowers over another mosaic, which depicts a scene of a man on horseback surround by a crowd of people; the picture is raised above the ground by a handsome frame. Around the mosaic, people have gathered to engage in the ceremony by singing hymns around a well. In the following shot, a close up of the well captures the small stone structure in some detail. Members of the clergy stand above the crowd on a platform, and there is another mosaic in the background. The filmmaker cuts to show a brass band leading the hymns.
Title - Mr Ben Milner of Stony Middleton and some youthful assistants at work on 'the nativity'.
In this short sequence a group of children, who, under the supervision of their teacher, create a mosaic using finely cut stones, paint and flowers. Next, the filmmaker captures one particular mosaic that reads '1945'. Following this, the filmmaker pays close attention to a mosaic representing the nativity scene. The mosaic shows Mary cradling baby Jesus in the stable, and the words 'Hope of the world' written above.
Title - 'In summer many pretty corners are seen in the lovely old town of Bakewell'.
A cyclist and several people cross a bridge in the small market town of Bakewell. Cutting away, cars and cyclists travel down a street lined by houses and a post office. In the next shot two, young girls stride across a pristine lawn.
Title - 'Bakewell's great event is its famous show'
Several men on horseback are surrounded by a throng of festival goers, and the peaks loom over the event in the background. Various aspects of the show are covered by the filmmaker and they include tractors sale, dog shows and livestock markets, which includes horses and yellow sheep.
Title - The fairy like glades of Dove Dale are a welcome retreat in the heat of summer.
A woman walks along the bank of a stream surrounded by trees.
Title - 'Nearby it is beautiful village of Tissington with its Elizabethan hall.'
An exterior shot shows the Elizabethan hall in its full glory. Cutting to another angle of the hall, a woman walks beside the halls perimeter wall, moving past cows grazing on finely cut grass.
Title - The gardens of Buxton and its classic crescent are always an attraction to parklands visitors.
People mill around a street surrounding Buxton crescent. Some people sit on benches, while others move across the pavement, and a dome, which is part of the Buxton crescent, is visible in the background. The filmmaker cuts away from the crescent to a nearby lake, where several rows boats commandeered by tourists idleon the still waters. A wide shot of Buxton's crescent exterior captures cars and people walking along an street running parallel to the crescent.
Title - In the twilight of summer, the moors are at the height of their beauty.
The following sequence shows various shots of moorland on a summer's day and hikers traversing the hilly landscape. A medley of shots captures the moorland and the livestock which graze on its luscious green slopes. A woman in a smart hat and dress walks past the camera along a path, and in the next shot, a car drives towards a farmhouse situated off in the distance.
Title - As autumn shadows spread along broad valleys, the gritstone 'edges' are clad in glorious raiment.
From a raised platform, the filmmaker captures footage of a steam train running along a stretch of track. The subsequent sequence consists of a succession of shots showing cars and people travelling across the moors. Down a country lane, a herd of sheep hurriedly trot down a path being pursued by a farmer and his sheep dog.
Title - Here, one can leave the bus to explore Longshaw's beautiful woodlands.
A bus trundles down a country lane, and by the side of the road a sign reads 'The national trust, Longshaw'. From a far, the filmmaker captures a group of youths hiking across an open plane of low grass. Next, the filmmaker cuts to a man walking through fairly dense foliage.
Title - Burbage Broof carries the harvest of autumn down to the river Derwent.
The filmmaker covers the river Derwent from a melange of angles and locations, following the water as it flows across rocks and down river. A man, dressed in formal attire of that period, stands on the bank of the river looking out across the lively waters, before turning round and looking into the camera. With the shot framed by branches, the film maker then captures a panoramic view of a wide stretch of river and several close ups of leaves floating along.
Title - Winters white mantle, now adds the crowning beauty to Derbyshire's hills.
Across a stretch of expansive hillside, houses lining the oblique landscape are covered in a thick layer of snow. The filmmaker then focuses on a car as it drives down a clear path on its way into a small snow covered village. Now inside the small village on a snow littered street, a dog obediently follows his mater, who sits astride a horse drawn cart. In the shot that follows, chickens peck away at the few small remaining areas of bare earth, and the filmmaker shows how other livestock are coping with the extreme conditions. Cutting away, a group of men carrying hefty backpacks trudge down a snow covered lane. From a distance, ramblers can be seen walking across the pure white snowy Derbyshire hills. Next, various shot show ramblers walking through the snow covered hills, including men in trench coats climbing a fence, and other people making their way slowly along snow plastered lanes.
Title - The winter scene is often a more harrowing one.
Crouched in the snow, a man attempts to fix a snow chain to his vans tyres, and in the shot that quickly follows, the chains have been attached and the van drives away through the snow. The filmmaker then focuses on a scene where a group of people try to push a stranded motorist, whose car is stuck in several inches of deep snow. Several people heave, but the tyres spin helplessly without grip, sliding across the snow.
Title - The snow covered shapes of the peak, leading to the great plateau of Kinders Scout, are now a formidable obstacle.
In the opening shot of this sequence, a man strolls through a snow laden valley, and a sign in the foreground reads, 'no public right of way'. Next, a man ascends a snowy slope, and cutting, he is now at the top of the slope holding aloft a long shaft of thick ice. In the next shot, the man's rucksack is open on the ground, and he fiddles with a camera. In the final shot of the film, there is a wide panoramic view looking across the snow swept peak land.
