A family are sitting and having breakfast when the adult daughter, Helen, takes a phone call to accept an invitation to stay with her Auntie Flow. Arriving at her auntie's house, the two of them sit in the garden talking. A young man arrives, Edward, who is introduced to Helen. Edward and Helen go shopping together. They walk through the town and stop to look into a shop window and Helen admires a pendant. They continue to the supermarket and then back home. A few days later Helen and Edward leave her aunt's house arm-in-arm, with Helen announcing that she has grown very fond of Edward. They stop and sit on a bench, having a kiss, and go off to feed ducklings on the river.
Helen's aunt receives a phone call from Edward's parents saying that they are returning home early from holiday, and asking if Edward can meet them at the airport. Meanwhile Edward heads of to the shop to buy the pendant. While he is away Helen sits in the garden looking concerned, and a detective calls at the house and tells Helen's aunt that Edward has been in a fatal accident. When Helen is told she is stunned and cries. But Edward arrives back and the two of them embrace. Edward explains that he had seen an accident and had phoned the police: there had been a misunderstanding. He then gives her the pedant, and the film ends with them holding each other.
