The film begins in a chemical laboratory where a group of technicians are playing cards and chess. Outside in the sunshine, there is a man, a woman, and a group of young men taking a break. One of them is strumming a guitar. There are other members of staff, and inside, one man is breaking a piece of seaside rock with a hammer. A man escorts a woman up to two men wearing white overalls. He asks her to pick one of them. When she chooses, they turn around to reveal Brand X written on one of their backs, and Zad on the other. Inside the lab, various tests are taking place. A man wheels a box on a trolley on the loading bay, and there is another tea break. A group of workers walk past the loading bay while playing make-shift instruments and larking about. A couple take a nap. All the staff members are gathered together with drinks in what might be a retirement party, and the film comes to an end.
