This film shows a family trip to Canada and New York. The family travel to the USA by ship and visit Canada and the Cross of Mount-Royal. They then journey to New York City to see the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre and the Chrysler Building. They them make their way back to England by ship, returning from New York to Southampton Docks.
The film opens with a seagull perched on the top of a boat, and there is a boat which sails in the harbour. Next to the docks is a building with a clock tower (3:30pm). Crowds of people wave from the docks near the loading area as a crane lifts nets full of luggage onto the ship. Cogs on the boat deck spin around as ropes are hoisted. Two tug boats sail alongside the ship pull it out of the harbour. Out at sea, the ship crashes through the waves as the water splashes on deck. On the top deck, passengers sit on the benches watching people throw a rubber ring across a net. The family play a game where they have to push a ball with a stick towards numbers on the deck. The sea is still on the horizon. Members of the ship's crew climb up to the main mast on a ladder and pull ropes down. The ship passes by land with hills and small towns. It also passes a boat as it sails past the land. On the coast of the land is a large gothic castle. A tugboat sails towards the ship and lines are attached (chateau). The ship is taken into the harbour.
Trams and cars travel in the city streets, and there is a large building with columns and statues as well as a building with a domed roof. This is followed by a shot of a cathedral in the city. A man wearing a hat winds a camera. There are street scenes and a monument and plaque in both French and English (The Hotel-Dieu, founded Here by Jeanne Mance, in 1644, was moved in 1861, to the Avenue Des Pins). At the front of a chateau there is a cannon (Chateau A.D. 1705 Ramezay). There is a metal framed suspension bridge over the large river. A man stands at the top of a skyscraper, looking down at the city below. Outside a building with many steps, someone is riding in a horse-draw carriage. The Cross of Mount-Royal and sign in French and English (The Cross of Mount-Royal Erected June 22-1924 by the Saint Jean-Baptiste Society of Montreal to commemorate the previous one planted by Paul de Chemedey de Maisonneuve founder of Montreal on February 6-1643 and to bear testimony to the development of the Metropolis of Canada under the protection of the Cross). The father looks up towards the cross.
There is footage of roof tops in the city and smoky chimneys. People walk through the streets of the city, past skyscrapers and roads with buses and cars driving past. Hotels and buildings surround Central Park. Squirrels run on the lawns near a sign (Newly seeded Keep Off). The city zoo - a goat, camels, seals, lion, cheater, polar bears, brown bear, elephant and a seal display.
In the city, the roads are filled with cars and other traffic (No Parking in this block 8am to 6pm Mon to Fri parking limit other times one hour Police Dept). Crowds of people walk through the streets. Several skyscrapers are seen from the streets including the Empire State building, the Chrysler Building, and Rockefeller Centre. The fountains are shown at the Rockefeller Centre, and there are families ice-skating on the rink.
At the docks the ship the Mauretania is docked. Many cars travel over the bridge past bill boards (Trotting Races Nightly at 840 $1.25 Roosevelt Raceway - Kinsey). Boats sail in the harbour. Passengers walk along the corridor on the ship, and a tug boat sails through the harbour (C. M. DEPEW New York Central System). The tug boat sails alongside the ship in the harbour past other ships. The New York skyline seen from the ship, and people are waving from one of the docking bays in the harbour (CUNARD WHITE STAR - AMERICAN EXPORT LINES). Cargo boats sail in the harbour past the ship, and there is more footage of the New York skyline.
On the top deck of the boat, the passengers play volleyball over the net. A family plays a game where they use sticks to push a disk over number on the deck. The coat line on the horizon as the boat sails at sea, and there is an oil rig in the sea. Many other ships sail past including cargo ships, passenger ships and military ships. An aeroplane has landed on the sea near a harbour. Finally, the journey is over, and the ship is moored at Southampton Docks.
