This film takes a look at some of the related events of the 1979 Walkington Victorian Hayride. The Hayride was an annual fundraising event taking place in East Yorkshire, and it was one of the largest processions of horse-drawn wheels in England. People dressed in Victorian costumes walk around plant stalls, and children eat sweets as they walk around the stalls. Many of those gathered for the garden party are dressed in a variety of Victorian costumes which show the range of social classes during that period. Women wearing summer bonnets sit at a table and have tea and biscuits. There is a man in a denim and leather studded jacket who stands at a music stall with a sign (Victorian Punk Records New Singles 20p). Next to a stall a goat is tied up. Men and women walk around the stalls together with their children. Crowds are gathered at a stall with a high table, and people are betting as to which hole the mouse underneath the box will go into. The man lifts the box, and the mouse goes into one of the holes. A man and woman sit under a tree together where they eat their ice creams. Children sit on the grass watching the Punch and Judy show, and other children play together on the slide and swings. A girl in a long white dress plays mini golf. Women wearing sun hats sit next to the house as a man smokes a long think pipe. Children pay money to the stall owner and choose a card number before he spins the wheel to land on a number and the children are given prizes (football), and women play a game of darts in the garden. At the end of the event, people begin to leave the garden through the large gates. Finally, the owners pack away the stalls in the garden and lock the gates.
