Title: The Mike Neville Show
To the applause of the studio audience presenter Mike Neville comes out on to the stage and welcomes the audience to the show and describing tonight’s two guests as individuals who are enjoying the limelight all but in different fields. Mike introduces his first guest as a man whose passion for horse riding from the age of ten led him to become European Champion, a multi-Olympic medallist and three times winner of the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials. A clip of him competing and winning this year’s Badminton Horse Trials changes to equestrian Ian Stark coming out onto the stage to take a seat beside Mike. Having just won for the third time, Ian is asked what it was like winning the first Badminton Horse Trials back in 1986? His memories are vague other than it was wet. He talks about the challenges of losing events and how he copes with the money that is lost. He talks about his upbringing in a non-horsey family from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders but slopping of school to attend competitions. He goes onto talk about the ten years he worked for the Department of Health and Social Security before taking the plunge to become a professional equestrian. He talks about the support of his family and wife Jen and how he copes competing in this dangerous and high-risk sport, he explains he tries not to think about it too much. He talks about being more frightened for his daughter Stephanie who is also a competitive rider and about his interest in parachuting. He ends the interview by being asked about his chances of being selected for the Three-Day Events team at the Sydney Olympics.
Taking the programme into a commercial break Mike states that after the break he will be chatting with one of the stars of a new Sunday evening drama series Badger Phillippa Wilson.
Title: The Mike Neville Show
Returning from the break Mike Neville describes his next guest as hailing from the Northeast and her latest part in the series Badger has allowed her to remain in the region as it is set in beautiful Northumberland. A clip from the programme featuring Phillippa Wilson performing alongside co-star Jerome Flynn changes to her coming into the studio and taking a seat beside Ian Stark. She talks about how excited she is that this new drama series was shot in the region and about the nerve-wracking audition process. She talks about the work she did to research her part as an owner of an animal sanctuary and how fun it was filming in Northumberland. She talks about her background living at Tynemouth but coming from York and that she has never been tempted to move south for work. She talks about the support of her family and getting into acting via school and the Backworth Children’s Theatre Group. She talks about her first professional job at the Live Theatre in Newcastle and working in performance alongside Robson Green. She is asked about other acting roles including in the drama series Spender alongside Jimmy Nail and in an episode of Casualty she is currently filming. She ends the interview by stating that she would like to do more theatrical work and that she is intending to remain living in the Northeast.
Brining the programme to an end Mike thanks his guests as well as the studio audience and provides details on next week’s programme when he will be joined by the one-and-only Kevin Keegan.
