Title: The Mike Neville Show
To the applause of the studio audience presenter Mike Neville comes out on to the stage and welcomes the audience to the show describing his first guest as a man with a twenty-year career in broadcasting that has been part of all our lives, however there is more to the man than meets the eyes. A clip from the Channel 4 chat-show The Graham Norton Show in which weather forecaster Ian McCaskill takes a phone call from a dominatrix. Coming into the studio he takes a seat beside Mike telling him how much more he is enjoying life since his retirement from the BBC. He explains how he got into meteorology while doing National Service and what it was like doing the weather before satellites and computers. He explains why it is so hard to forecast the weather in Britain. He is asked if he misses being a forecaster, he explains he misses the job and his colleagues but not getting up at 3am. He confesses it was him who gave Michael Fish the wrong information regarding the Great Storm of October 1987. He provides details on what his is doing with his retirement and remarrying a year ago.
Taking the programme into a commercial break Mike states that after the break he will be chatting with singer songwriter Beverley Craven.
Title: The Mike Neville Show
Returning from the break Mike Neville describes his next guest as a singer song writer whose first album sold over three-quarters of a million copies in the UK. After taking a break from recording in recent years she is back on the road performing new material on a nationwide tour. In the studio Beverley Craven performs her latest single I Miss You before joining Mike and sitting beside Ian McCaskill. She explains to Mike that she stepped away from the music industry to raise a family and have three girls. She talks about having a difficult pregnancy and her frustration with the music industry being the reason why she left. She talks about coming from a musical background and being a swimmer. She talks about moving to London aged 18 and how success didn’t come until she was around twenty-five. She talks about her husband also being a song writer and about how the music industry has changed with less focus on single artists like her. She explains how rewarding it was producing her last album and about her recording studio at home, however she struggles balancing work and family while on tour. She and Ian both talk about the importance of bonding with your children with Ian admitting he wasn’t as close to his as he would have liked.
Brining the programme to an end Mike thanks his guests as well as the studio audience and provides details on next week’s programme when he will be joined by actress Lesley Joseph and a woman who always has a word for the wise Denise Robertson.
