The sixth episode of a chat show presented by regional television personality Mike Neville who this week chats with singer and films star Hazel O’Connor and comedian Paul Squire.
Title: The Mike Neville Show
To the applause of the studio audience presenter Mike Neville comes out on to the stage and introduces tonight’s programme describing his first guest as a woman who left home at sixteen to travel the world, on her return to Britian she achieved overnight success taking the lead role in the hit movie Breaking Glass and has since then been able to combine her careers as a musician and actress predominantly on the stage. A clip from the film Breaking Glass featuring Hazel O’Connor performing changes to her coming out onto the stage and taking a seat beside Mike. He asks her about her autobiography which she wrote aged twenty-five and she provides details on why she ran away from home, her time making clothes in Amsterdam, being a showgirl in Japan and how because of love she crosses the Sahara Desert. She talks about her musical career and about getting the part in Breaking Glass and about the problems she had dealing with fame. She is asked about her feelings towards the music industry which she believed ripped her off. She also talks about her move to Ireland from Los Angeles following an (incorrect) diagnoses of skin cancer.
Brining the interview to a close Mike states that after the break he will be speaking with comedian and panto star Paul Squires.
Title: The Mike Neville Show
Explaining that his next guest at the tender age of five took his first steps onto the stage and was born into a showbusiness family. A clip from a television show in which comedian Paul Squires features as a Mr Punch character changes to him coming out onto the stage to take seat next to Hazel O’Connor. Mike talks about how they met, and Paul talks about his fundraising work for the Grand Order of the Water Rats. He talks about his family whose history is steeped in showbiz touring the American airbases in Germany as The Millionaires before returning to Britain and moving from Manchester to the Northeast where all the big clubs were. Paul tells a funny story about almost being killed while performing at the Shotton Comrades Club at Shotton Colliery. Hazel joins the conversation and talks of her experiences working American airbases in Germany. Bringing the interview to a close Mike ask Paul about pantomime which he describes as hard work but rewarding. He reminds Mike that he is directing this year’s production of Cinderella at the Charter Theatre in Preston and the involvement in the production of his two sons.
Bringing the programme to an end Mike thanks his guests as well as the studio audience and provides details on next week’s programme when he will be joined by distinguished actor Peter Vaughan and the writer and columnist Harry Pearson.
