The second edition of a new chat show presented by regional television personality Mike Neville. In this programme Mike is joined by Newcastle born writer, photographer and broadcaster Lucinda Lambton and by singer-songwriter Allan Clarke of The Hollies fame.
Title: The Mike Neville Show
To the applause of the studio audience presenter Mike Neville comes out on to the stage and introduces this the second programme in this brand-new series and introduces his first guest whom he described as one of the Northeast’s most ‘wild-and-wacky ladies’ who isn’t afraid of telling it as it. A clip from a television programme featuring Lucinda Lambton riding in a horse-drawn funeral carriage lambasting a recert English Tourist Board publication on ‘A Vision for England.’
Coming out onto the stage Lucinda takes a seat beside Mike and reminds him of their twenty or possibly thirty-year friendship. They talk about her colourful Northeast aristocratic family the Lambton’s and about her glamorous forebearer ‘Radical Jack’ 1st Earl of Durham. After talking briefly about the origins of the Lambton Worm, she talks about her aunt the socialite Freda Dudley Ward who was for sixteen years the mistress of Duke of Windsor, later Edward VIII. She tells Mike that she still considers herself to be a ‘Northeastener’ and talks about the Penshaw Monument. They talk about the television and book series she has been involved and why she is known as ‘Lucinda Lambton and the Lavatories.’ She describes that series as both saucy and serious before talking about her project she is working on about graves and where curious people are buried. She talks about her love of concrete and about the recently installed Angel of the North which she describes as ‘magnificently modern’ and about the people in the south and how they should follow the inspiration from the Northeast.
Taking the programme into a commercial break Mike provides details on his next guest singer-songwriter Allan Clarke formerly of The Hollies as well as two mystery guests who bring a new meaning to ‘surfing the net.’
Title: The Mike Neville Show
Sitting in the audience between them Mike speaks with Gillian and Jason, a young couple who met online only a few weeks earlier and are now married. Mike asks them about the whirlwind romance initially via email, their first meeting and the decision to marry so quickly. They are asked about reactions from friends and a family, many of whom neither have met, and the relevance of holding their reception at the Angel View Inn overlooking the Angel of the North.
Introducing his final guest as a talented singer-songwriter, a clip of The Hollies performing their hit On a Carousel possibly in the Tyne Tees Television studio. Coming out onto the stage lead singer Allan Clarke comes to sit beside Lucinda and talks with Mike both about that recording session as well as performing on the first episode of Top of the Pops back on New Years Day 1964. Allan is asked about the origins of the ground which Allan formed with Graham Nash. He is asked about what it was like to be famous back in the 1960s and about the groups chart hits. Allan explains why he still likes touring and about his song writing process and about the origins of hits such as Carrie Anne and Jennifer Eccles. Bringing Lucinda Lambton into the conversation, she remembers travelling on the Flying Scotsman with both The Crickets, of Buddy Holly fame, and the Everly Brothers. Allan talks about how and why The Hollies wrote an album for the Everly Brothers. Mike asks Allan his thoughts on modern music and what both he and Lucinda think of the Spice Girls, a group Lucinda describes as ‘cheery lasses’. They talk about being children of the 1950s with Lucinda lamenting the problems of litter today compared to when she was a younger.
Bringing the programme to an end Mike thanks his guests as well as the studio audience and provides details on next week’s guest’s musician Mark Knopfler and Newcastle born actor Tim Healy.
