The thirty-fifth of thirty-seven short films produced by documentary filmmaker Tom Harmer as part of the 52Humans project. Filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic and released weekly for a year, a film about Natasha Graves about the reasons behind why she created ND Dance Academy on the deprived Thorpe Edge estate in Bradford. Title: A Way Forward 35/52 Following Natasha Graves stands look out across the Thorpe Edge estate Bradford, a montage of images of her as a child and her talking in voiceover about how she lived and breathed dance. As she dances in the studio of her ND Dance Academy she talks about why dance is so important to her as she explains it brings her soul alive. A montage of images of Natasha as a young mother changes to her walking though the Thorpe Edge estate talking about moving to the estate seventeen years previous and about the estates poor reputation and why she established ND Dance. Back inside the studio a group of girls from the estate perform a dance routine together followed by a montage of images of them performing as part of Supported Charities Football Club with Natasha providing details on what they do to raise money for different charities. As one girl performs alone in the studio Natasha explains that she has won a scholarship in London. A photograph of Natasha’s son receiving a Pride of Britain award changes to Natasha staring into the camera and talking about the challenges of the pervious year with the death of her father and almost losing the studio because of the COVID pandemic. As Natasha makes her way back inside her studio the girl seen previously dancing alone continues to perform with a group, including Natasha, watching from a doorway. In voiceover Natasha states that she needs to keep going and keep moving and help to give the estate a better name for itself. At dusk Natasha walks up a hill and looks out on Thorpe Edge estate and Bradford below. Title: “There is a way forward, regardless of what we have to fight through.” Natasha End title: www. 52Humans.com
