The twenty-third of thirty-seven short films produced by documentary filmmaker Tom Harmer as part of the 52Humans project. Filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic and released weekly for a year, a film about Richard who talks about his experience of having a stroke and about what he lost because of it and how he learned to value new things in his life. Title: A Stroke of Gratefulness 23/52 As he looks out of a window Richard talks about his stroke fourteen years previous and how his heart stopping for four-and-a-half minutes. After looking at a cardiograph from that time he sits in a conservatory doing a jigsaw. In voiceover he talks about what he has lost due to the stroke, about feeling trapped and isolated and needing friendship. In a clearing in a wood Richard looks up at the sky and talks in voiceover about the marginalised people in society and how they are treated badly. As he walks through the wood he talks about how he is now grateful for the little things and about what he learned to value. As he continues his walk, he holds hands with his partner talking about one of the things he now values in companionship. The two hug.
