Title: Beacons of Hope
21/52
Over a montage of family photographs David Forcett talks about growing up in poverty and wanting to get his family out of it. Standing in a terraced street he stares into the camera lens before turning and walking away. In voiceover talks about becoming wealthy but feeling empty and wanting a change in heart and direction to help the homeless.
As he walks into his office and begins to open the blinds at the charity he founded Happy Days Ministries he talks about his decision to become poor in order to server the poor and how his work over the past decade has made him feel fresh and new because of the people he has met.
Sitting on a bench outside he talks with a homeless man changing to him arriving at a house where a group of residents are sitting in chairs outside chatting. As the group continues to talk amongst themselves, David talks about the work of the charity to help people find peace, a home and a community. As David chats with another man outside a house he talks about the difficult times caring for the most broken people in society.
As David looks over a garden fence he talks about his drive to make a difference in people lives. As two of the male residents featured previously come out of a house to pose in front of the camera, David talks in voiceover talks about how those he helps go on to want to make a difference in the world.
Outside a large building, possibly the home of Happy Days Ministries, David chats with two colleagues and talks in voiceover about the growing number of challenges the charity faces but believes they have lit a beacon. Another young man sits and stares directly at the camera.
As David walks along a canal towpath near his offices, he talks about how making a difference in other people’s lives is rewarding to him. A photograph of him holding inflatable balloons at his 50th birthday party changes to him staring out of a window in his office.
