The second of thirty-seven short films produced by documentary filmmaker Tom Harmer as part of the 52Humans project. Filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic and released weekly for a year, this film is the story of one black man’s search for understanding about his own identity, being that of a descendant of a slave bought and sold as part of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Title: The Mirror 02/52 Joel Brown leans over a park bench looking out across a misty landscape, he turns and looks past the camera. As Joel goes for a walk through some woods, across a hillside and back to the bench where he started, he talks in voiceover about going on a journey along a path of discovery to find his identity as the descendant of a slave purchased by a slaveowner by the name of Brown. He explains that knowing your identity is freedom to be who you know you are. Turning he looks directly at the camera. Title: “Knowing your identity is the straightest path to fearlessness.” Joel End title: www. 52Humans.com
