The seventh and final fascinating and thought-provoking film produced by viewers of the Tyne Tees Television news programme North East Tonight which present a range of thoughts, hopes, dreams and fears about moving into a new millennium. This film written by Joanna Scorror from North Yorkshire who wants to see a greening of our urban sprawl with trees and flowers for future generations to enjoy.
In a winter woodland as a small girl in a red coat runs through fallen leaves, a woman’s voice talking about playing in fields and woods as a child with the young girl also repeating some or parts of her words.
The girl continues to run through the leaves and approaches and runs around a large oak tree, both the woman and girl talk about how it has been centuries growing, aging and watching. The girl states it is her favourite tree being 400 years old.
As the girl again walks through fallen leaves the woman’s voice explains how it is nourishing the earth. Flowers growing in a flowerbed and the woman talking in voiceover about her hopes that anyone who has the time and money to garden does.
A fisherman walking along the banks of a lake passes a wind turbine on the far bank changing to a montage of colourful flowers intercut with scenes of industry around Teesside. The girl now walks through the wood with the woman speaking in voiceover about her hopes to see in the future more plants and flowers everywhere and that every person will reap the rewards. She dreams the earth is safe in our hands.
As the girl runs the woman talks in voiceover about looking forward to seeing the first summer of the new century. A montage of colourful flowers growing in a meadow and the girl and woman talking in unison about wanting to see her future ‘oozing with life’ as this would be their ‘millennium heaven’. The film ends with the girl holding up an acorn asking if we know what you get from them?
