Title: Bradford Producing Hub
Who are BPH?
Sitting overlooking both Bradford City Park and Bradford City Hall Lisa Mallaghan Director of Bradford Producing Hub (BPH) explains they are an arts development organisation with a radical approaches to training and development. As she speaks a montage of artistic ventures supported BPH including South Asian dancers performing inside a church.
Shanaz Gulzar Creative Director Bradford 2025, Tahir Shah BPH Creative Council Member and Alison McIntyre Visual Arts Instigator each explain that BPH provides a safe space for artists to take considered risk and to make everybody confident and skilled-up enough to be able to do their art without BPH. Again, intercut between each of these individuals a montage from some of the artistic ventures supported by BPH.
Title: Why is BPH needed?
Beginning with Lisa Mallaghan a montage of voices providing details on the need for and options available to support creativity through funding and training of different voices within Bradford and its communities. The voices feature includes Beccy Durham Creative Council Coordinator BPH, Sinead Campbell of Bradford Music Lead, Testament a writer, rapper and beatboxer and Ruth Melville External Evaluator for Ruth Melville Research. Again, intercut with these voices a montage if images partly taken from a variety of artistic project supported by BPH, but also creatives taking part in seminars and lectures.
Title: What makes BPH stand out?
Again, a number of voices answer the question stating how BPH challenges the old ways of doing things and to make the arts in Bradford for everybody. They go onto say that BPH are more about the people and are artist focused, that they get to know both the artist and gets to know the cultural ecology within the town. They invest and care about people they support and go out of their way so much to try and make a change withing the sector or community. Voices featured includes again Lisa Mallaghan followed by Kat-Rose Martin a Make Work Recipient for Pick‘N’Mix, Madiha Ansari Culture 101 Programme for the Cultural Ecology Project, Louise Hodgson Training, Funding and Mentoring Recipient, Aamta-Tul Waheed BHP Creative Council Member and finally Damien O’Keeffe, Co-Artistic Director for the Ilkley Playhouse who describes BPH as ‘from the city, of the city, for the city.’ A series of photo montages are used to help illustrate some of the comments being made.
Title: What impact has BPH had?
Another montage of voices beginning with Lisa Mallaghan who explains how with a small amount of support from BPH it has made such a massive difference to people and that it has changed the way not only how the arts and culture sector sees itself but also within the wider Bradford community. Bradford is getting notices and has rich tapestries of stories with stories still to be told. The BPH model should be rolled out across the country creating a powerhouse ecosystem within the arts and culture sector that through regional hubs can tap into local voices to help tell stories from communities across the country. Voices featured include Richard Dunbar the Co-chair of Bradford Cultural Voice Forum, Stephen Thorp BPH Creativity Council Member, Carlos Pons Guerra Make Work Recipient from The Bull and the Moon, Natalie Davies Make Work Recipient from Full English, Anna Franks Audience Development Consultant and Mentor and Liz Mytton BPH Consortium Member. Again, a mixture of both still and moving montages help illustrate points being made.
Title: The future…
Lisa Mallaghan explains that the change in growth of the creative industry is rapid in Bradford, and she hopes BPH will make sure those people who are developing these companies can really be sustainable and that they can make the most of Bradford City of Culture as it is once in a lifetime. A final montage of voices features some of the participants featured above talking about how City of Culture will turbocharge the next five years where there will be lots of opportunities for more projects made by the people of Bradford, for the people of Bradford and funded by organisations in Bradford.
