Title: Come Outside
Over a montage of children playing on various rides in a Bradford park alongside other members of their local community, one of the children provides details on Come Outside and how it works together with local people to improve outdoor spaces for families with young children across parks, pocket park, communities centres, streets and green spaces all across Bowling and Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton.
As Haleema Khathoon Senior Community Engagement Officer plays with a small child Gill Thornton Director of Bradford Better Start Project provides details on the projects mission and how parents and the local community have been at the heart of what they do.
A montage of the work done at Jane Binns Memorial Park, Bowling Park Story Trail, Back Derby Place and Attock Park with Adele Adams Better Place Project Manager talking in voiceover about how the Better Start Project has improved play areas, worked with communities to design sites specifically for children aged 0 to three and how each site is very bespoke to that local community.
Over a montage of relevant images members of the local community at Shine West Bowling and Lister Avenue Community Garden talk about what has been built for them and how it has helped them and their neighbours. In a local park as children jump on trampolines and play on other pieces of equipment, a woman explains how she has seen the confidence in the children grow.
As a group of children follow the Playful Path at Folkstone Street, the film changes to a nature class taking place in Bowling Park and a mother talking about the positive benefits of bringing her child to the park to gain healthy interactions. As the children play together some of them talk in voiceover about why they like playing in the park.
As Kristian Eastwood Better Place Urban Ranger arrives at Better Start site by bicycle and proceeds to do some gardening work, Gill Thornton provides details on other local government and community organisations that have helped so that the children get a much better deal. As their children pick out books from the library box at Laisterdyke Library, two mothers talk about the work they did in developing the library as well as starting a session known as Tiny Gardeners.
Inside Peel Park children working to create Scarp Wood Beasties with a local volunteer explaining how works and how it encourages children to use their imagination and make things. As a group of young mothers gather in the park with their children, the two mothers seen earlier at Laisterdyke Library explain how those who attend come down to make friends and how they help to support each other to raise their children.
Inside Bradford Moor Park a popup farm with young families interacting and feeding various animals. As some of the parents talk about what they and their children gain from the experience other activities feature including a paddling pool with plastic insects in it and a child being a sandcastle in a sandpit with his father. One of the mothers seen previous now talks about how important it is to have low-cost free resources and how they create nice memories for both them and their children.
As families ride around in peddled-powered buggies as part of Supporting Play Street, children and young families play happily in Horton Park with some of those taking part explaining how they would like to see more of these kind of events as it brings children together as well as helps parents to interact. A nature talk taking place inside the Roughs at Bowling Park with the man running it stating that coming to green spaces triggers better mental and physical help.
