Coming out onto the stage presenter Ruth Pitt welcomes both the audience and viewers to the start of this annual competition to find the regions young businessperson of the year from the Yorkshire Television region. She provides details on the qualities the judging panel have been looking for in these contestants all aged under 25 such as business skill, courage, initiative and hard work and that the eventual winner will be walking away not only with the Enterprize 89 trophy, the 9th to be awarded by Yorkshire Television, but also a total prize fund of £9000.
Ruth moves on to introduce the judging panel beginning with its chair Commercial Manager with Lloyds Bank Michael Walker followed by the winner of Enterprize 84 Christine Tilley of the Yorkshire College of Beauty Therapy in Leeds and the winner of the first Enterprize 80 Mark Jones of Jones Poultry Service.
The first contestant in this third heat is 24-year-old Tim Clark from Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire who is Farm Manager at The White Post Modern Farm Centre. As Tim shows a group of school children around his farm, he allows them to feed and pet some of the animals, including his star attraction Lionel the Llama and reindeer Rudolph and Tinker-Bell. Tim talks about his business offering children the change to learn about the different types of animals kept on modern farm. Inside the incubator room he shows the group a new-born hatchling while outside a sign giving clear instructions to visitors how to get around the farm. Returning to the studio Tim takes questions with regards his business by the judging panel.
Moving on the second contesting in this heat is 24-year-old Scot Naylor from Leeds. Arriving at his Northern Bathrooms showroom under Dark Arches in Leeds Scot talks about the varied bathroom suites on display that cover a large section of the bathroom specialist market. In his office three of his five employees and outside at his nearby warehouse another employee loads the company van which delivers throughout Yorkshire. As he speaks with potential customers back inside the showroom, he talks in voiceover about the company’s formation and how it has expanded over the past three years. Back in the studio he takes questions from the judging panel.
The third contestants are partners Judith Harding aged 25 and 24-year-old Louisa Gibson from Huddersfield. In their Walk on Designs studios both women work on making hand tufted rugs to individual designs by commission. As they talk about how the designs are created and who their customers are, they use and explain their specialist equipment such as a tufting gun and clipper blade. One of the women look through a selection of rugs stacked in a pile on the floor. Returning to the studio they take questions on the company by the judging panel.
The fourth and final contestant in this third heat is 22-year-old David Willis from Easingwold near York. In his Screenprint Promotions workshop as he works to produce print t-shirts and other screen-printed items, he talks about his company which designers and prints advertising, promotional and point-of-sale material. Explaining that his business is above a conventional printing business below he talks about how they work together to provide each other with work. Back in the Studio David takes questions from the judging panel.
As the judges consider who will go through to the final a montage of clips featuring previous Enterprize contestants and how they have gone onto have business success. Turning to Michael Walker who after giving a brief overview of the judge’s thoughts on each of the contestants he names Tim Clark as the winner of this third heat.
Ruth brings the programme to a close shaking hand with all the contestants over the closing credits.
