Coming out onto the stage...
The second of four heats in this the ninth series of the Yorkshire Television programme that is searching for the most enterprising businessperson in the region under the age of 25. Four contestants from across Yorkshire and Derbyshire compete to be selected to go forward to the final of Enterprize 89 and its £5000 1st prize.

Coming out onto the stage presenter Ruth Pitt welcomes both the audience and viewers to the start of this annual competition to find the young businessperson of the year from the Yorkshire Television region. She provides details on the qualities the judging panel have been looking for in these contestants all aged under 25 such as business skill, courage, initiative and hard work and that the eventual winner will be walking away not only with the Enterprize 89 trophy, the 9th to be awarded by Yorkshire Television, but also £5000.
Ruth moves on to introduce the judging panel beginning with its chair Commercial Manager with Lloyds Bank Michael Walker followed by Graham Poulter Chairman of the Graham Poulter Group and Dick Campbell-Robson General Manager of the Industrial Society.
The first contestant in this heat are brothers Simon and John Frederick from Sheffield aged 24 and 20 respectively. In the office of their company Gutterclean Roofing Services the brother discusses their work with Simon using a computer. In voiceover he talks about the company which maintains and replaces guttering mainly in the domestic market, but they are hoping to expand into industrial and factory work. Out on-site John speaks with their two employees Nigel and Lee and climbs a ladder to the roof to inspect the work being done. He talks in voiceover about the importance of advertising and the signage which is on the sides of both company vans and printed on sweatshirts. Back in the studio both brothers take questions with regards their business from the judging panel.
The second contest in this heat is 24-year-old Julie Pownall from Chesterfield. In her shop Office Furniture World, she speaks with a potential customer while talking in voiceover about her business in new and second-hand office furniture. Heading into her office and taking a seat at her desk she talks about her staff both here in Chesterfield and in a second store at Newark. Outside two warehouse men load the company lorry with furniture with Julie providing details on her region wide customer base. Returning the studio Julie takes questions from the judging panel.
The third contestant is 25-year-old Philip Netherwood from Halifax. At his trade counter speaking with a customer Philip provides details on his business Calder Trade Supplies which supplies local shopfitters, window manufacturers and engineering merchants with general ironmongery, abrasives and adhesives. In the company officer his two partners one working on the accounts the other a company representative or rep. As Philip makes a delivery, he explains the demand for this service and how it is currently deliveries are 90% of his business. He also talks about expansion moving into large premises and growing the trade counter business. Back in the studio he takes questions from the judging panel.
The fourth and final contesting in this second heat is 21-year-old Julie Bowes from York. As she takes an order for her mobile pet food shop Bow Wow at home, she explains that she currently has 100 customers on her books and supplies withing a 12-to-15-mile radius of the city. As she loads her van with sacks of pet food stored in a garage, she talks about the types of food she provided including specialist varieties. She arrives at a customer’s house and takes the sack to the door; in voiceover she talks about wishing to expand the business with a second van and her own dog food mixing machine. Back in the studio she takes questions from the judging panel.
As the judges consider who will go through to the final a montage of clips featuring previous Enterprize contestants and how they have gone onto bigger and brighter business success since appearing in the programme. Turning to Michael Walker who after giving a brief overview of the judge’s thoughts on each of the contestants names Julie Pownall as the winner of this second heat.
Ruth brings the programme to a close shaking hand with all the contestants over the closing credits.
