Title: Enterprize 88
Coming out onto the stage presenter Robert Hall introduces this second heat of Enterprize 88 which will find the most enterprising self-employed businessperson in the region under the age of 25. He provides details on the qualities the judging panel will be looking for in these contestants such as business skill, courage, initiative and hard work and that the eventual winner will be walking away not only with the Enterprize 88 trophy, the 8th to be awarded by Yorkshire Television, but also £5000.
After addressing the audience Robert introduces the judging panel beginning with its chair Commercial Manager for Lloyds Bank Michael Walker followed by John McGrory Chairman of The Prince’s Trust Humberside and Glenys Goucher Chief Executive of Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce.
The first contestant in this heat is 25-year-old Neil Grayson who co-owns a bed specialist shop at Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire called the Cartergate Bed Centre. As he and partner Lachlan Cameron go about setting up the shop and dealing with customers, Neil speaks in voiceover about how the company was set up, what its specialist services are and how the company is operated. Back in the studio he takes questions about the company from the judging panel.
The second contender in this heat is 20-year-old Veronica Clark from Selby in North Yorkshire. As she works at her small bakery unit inside a Selby shopping centre selling bread and cakes, she talks in voiceover about some of the other items she sells as well as about her part-time staff. A selection of wedding cakes stands nearby which Veronica rents outs, a part of the business that is proving a success. As she sells a loaf to two women she talks about her future and owning and running more shops. Back in the studio she takes questions the judging panel about the company and the challenges she had at getting a bank loan.
The third contestant is 22-year-old David Richardson and his company Hole-in-One Golf Club Repair and Manufacture of Leeds. As he supervises staff in his workshop, he provides details on this golf club repair and manufacturing business which supplies or repairs clubs for professional golfers across both Yorkshire and part of Lancashire. Back in the studio he takes questions about his company from the judging panel.
The final contestant in this heat is 25-year-old Maureen Gordon who designs and manufactures knitwear for customer made to measure through her company Mo-Jo Designer Knitwear of Sheffield. As Maureen works on a garment in her workshop, she talks about the orders she gets and why she will be moving to large premises shortly. As a customer arrives to collect a jumper Maureen talks about her prospects for the future and her desire to get her garments into some of the exclusive fashion shops in Sheffield. Like the previous contestants she takes questions about her business from the judging panel back in the studio.
As the judges consider the winner Robert Hall provided details on last week’s winner Deborah Holmes. Turning to Michael Walker to announce the winner he gives an overview of the judge’s thoughts on each of the contestants before naming Neil Grayson as the winner of this second heat.
Robert brings the programme to a close and over the closing credits shakes hands and chats with all the contestants.
